Building the Foundation

Founded by Shandy Stroud M.Ed., LAC, Grey Rock Productions is dedicated to creating resources that help people heal, grow, and love wisely. Along with resources, The How to Love Series is a four-part book collection with corresponding workbooks designed to guide readers through faith based and psychologically grounded relationship growth. Grey Rock Productions will also host the God Bless You, Darlin' blog, a space for practical wisdom, storytelling, and encouragement rooted in truth and compassion, and invites anyone to share their experiences, knowledge, inspiration, and/or ideas!

Why Grey Rock?

I had spent so much time turning names over in my mind, searching for something clever, catchy, and thought-provoking, something that could carry the weight of what I felt called to build. Then, one Sunday at church, the pastor spoke about Acts 4:11 and read aloud, “Jesus is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.” The words would not leave me. They echoed again and again, and I began to wonder whether “Cornerstone Productions” might be the name I had been searching for. A few minutes later, the pastor asked how often we find ourselves facing consequences simply for trying to do the right thing in our relationships, friendships, churches, and even workplaces, and how we respond when that happens. His question broke something open in me. A flood of emotion rose before I could contain it, carrying memories of every time I had faced that painful choice and every area of my life where I am still learning how to stand in truth without losing myself.

For years, the grey rock method has been my way of surviving those moments. I do not ignore, dismiss, or avoid people, but when I know someone is not psychologically safe, I protect my peace by engaging only as much as necessary. Then, as the storm inside me slowly grew quiet, the answer landed with a clarity I could not deny: “Grey Rock Productions” was not merely a clever name. It was the story of what I had survived, the boundaries I had learned to build, and the faith that was teaching me what healing could become. It would invite those familiar with Acts 4:11 to ask, “What is a grey rock?” and those familiar with the grey rock method to ask, “What does Acts 4:11 have to do with this?” And in the space between those two questions, the true purpose of Grey Rock Productions begins.

Grey Rock Productions takes its name from the grey rock method, a strategy used by individuals facing emotional abuse, manipulation, or high conflict relationships. The concept is simple: become as uninteresting as a grey rock so that unhealthy attempts to provoke, control, or manipulate lose their power. The grey rock method can be useful, but it is not the destination. It is a temporary boundary, not a way of life. At Grey Rock Productions, I believe true healing is found in something far greater. Healthy boundaries may protect us, but our lives are built on Jesus Christ, our Cornerstone.

Grey Rock’s Mission

My mission is to help people navigate life’s most difficult relationships through the integration of faith, psychology, and love. I aim to replace confusion with understanding, fear with wisdom, and bitterness with compassion while never compromising truth.

Grey Rock Productions exists to create books, stories, and educational resources that help people heal, grow, and love wisely. Every project is grounded in the belief that psychology helps us understand people, Scripture teaches us how to love them, and Christ remains the unshakable foundation beneath it all.

Meet Darcy

I’ve studied human behavior for over 10 years. Then I got this cat.

Darcy is the Grey Rock Productions Chief Feline Officer of Human Training & Behavioral Correction. Her leadership philosophy: “I have seen. I have observed. I understand. I remain unimpressed.” Turns out psychology isn’t just about understanding people. Sometimes it’s about accepting that your cat has already analyzed you… and found room for improvement.

Darcy also goes by her street name, Fancy. My brother found her a few years ago and I brought her home. A colleague said that she looked like she smokes Marlboro Reds and is from the hard streets. They also said she looks like she goes by Fancy. From that moment on, she was deemed Fancy Cat. Darcy is her government name because we have another tortie named Dannie and had our girl, Delilah, at the time. Darcy lives a lavish lifestyle with her man and her can opener (me).

She might’ve been born just a plain stray cat, but Fancy was her name.

How I met my love

It all began with a moment that felt touched by God. We met at Walmart, where we both worked, when I was 19 and he was 20. I saw him walk into the room where I was working, and when our eyes met, something inside me shifted. At 19, my mind was full of plans and possibilities, but settling down was nowhere on the list. Yet the feeling that washed over me in that instant was something I can only describe as spiritual. We didn’t know each other, so why did my heart respond like it already did?

We went on one date, and that same feeling stayed with me the entire time. A few days later, I texted him, and he didn’t text me back. My 19-year-old heart interpreted that silence as disinterest, so when he finally did respond, I ignored him. But the feeling I had when I saw him at work refused to fade. It followed me every time I saw him at work, every time I ran into him over the years we weren’t together, and it still rises in me every time I read his “I’m headed home” text.

We took different roads for a while, but God was weaving something bigger than either of us understood. Our wedding song in 2022 was “God Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts, a song that captures the way God can use detours, delays, and heartbreak to guide us exactly where we’re meant to be. As the lyric says, “God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you.” That line has become a prayer over our marriage, a reminder that every step was part of His design.

Today, we are happily married, learning to love each other deeper, healing together, and growing closer to God and each other every day. Our marriage is a living reminder that when God authors a love story, He writes it with purpose, redemption, and a tenderness that time cannot erase.

Blake is my rock, and God is our rock. This is the love He chose for us. And every day, we choose it too.
